Middlesbrough Gang Show

Tribute to Ralph Reader, C. B. E.

Ralph Reader, C.B.E, died on 13 May 1982 just a few weeks after the last production of the Middlesbrough Gang Show. It is very appropriate, therefore, that the Gang take the opportunity this year of paying their own special tribute to the man who wrote the songs and sketches for Gang Shows throughout the world for the benefit of the Scout Movement. It was Ralph Readers' proud boast that a show was being performed every night of the year somewhere in the world and this week it is the turn of local Scouting to keep this tradition going.

Looking back at past performances it is difficult to understand how the standard can be improved each year - but somehow the cast and its many supporters front and backstage manage it. This year that very high. standard is maintained and I have no doubt that most of you will agree that this production is the best that has been seen in Middlesbrough.

Like Ralph Reader the Gang gives its services free of charge. Their payment is the knowledge that you have enjoyed yourselves at their Show. In all other aspects of the production they can be classed as professionals. I am sure that you will enjoy the show so sit back in your seats, listen to the orchestra and wait for the curtain to rise on an entertainment of songs, sketches and dancing of which Ralph Reader would have been proud.

I should like to thank ail the members of this years Gang Show for the many hours of work they have put into this production and I thank you, the audience, for being here tonight. Without You there would not be a Gang Show in Middlesbrough.
